Child find is a component of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA ’04) that requires schools to locate, identify, and evaluate all children with disabilities, aged birth through 21, located within their boundaries of responsibility who are in need of early intervention or special education services. This applies to children suspected of having a disability even though they are advancing from grade to grade, highly mobile (such as migrant and homeless), wards of the state, private school students and/or homeschool students.
If you have concerns about any child’s development, please contact the Special Education department. For children ages 2.9-5 years that reside in the district boundaries and are that are not yet in kindergarten, the district offers free screenings. Areas that are covered in the screenings include cognitive, language, motor, self-help and social skills. Please contact the special education department to arrange a screening.
